Level 1: the beginner path
Six short lessons, in order. Finish all six and we'll add 100 stitch points to your account.
- Meet your kit. What everything is, how to thread your needle and how to set up a cozy stitching spot.
- Your very first tent stitch. The little diagonal stitch almost all needlepoint is built on.
- Start and end threads, no knots. Anchor your thread so the back stays tidy and nothing comes loose.
- Continental vs. basketweave. Two ways to work tent stitch, and when to use each.
- Mounting on stretcher bars. Keep your canvas square and taut for smoother, even stitches.
- Finish it: make an ornament. Turn your stitched canvas into something to hang, gift or show off.

Speak stitcher: the glossary
- Canvas: the stiff mesh fabric your design is painted or printed on.
- Mesh: holes per inch. 13 mesh is chunkier and faster, great for beginners. 18 mesh means finer detail.
- Tent stitch: the little diagonal stitch over one intersection. Most of needlepoint is this.
- Continental: tent stitch worked in rows. Perfect for outlines.
- Basketweave: tent stitch worked on the diagonal. Less warping, a beautiful back.
- Stretcher bars: a wooden frame that keeps your canvas square and taut.
- WIP: work in progress. Having several isn't a problem. It's a personality.
- Stash: your collection of canvases and threads waiting their turn.
